MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Three Senior Officials recently expelled from the Movement for Democracy and Reconciliation (MDR) have broken the silence on their expulsion from the Party.
The officials include former MDR Vice Chairman for Government Affairs, Wilfred Bangura, former Secretary General, Melvin Yealu, and Nimba County District-Four Representative, Gonpu Kargon.
They were expelled by the Party’s National Executive Committee for allegedly violating several provisions of the Party’s Constitution.
But, addressing a press conference in Congo Town on Thursday, May 18, 2023, former National Vice Chairman for Government Affairs, Wilfred Bangura, described their expulsion as illegitimate and a breach of the Party’s Constitution.
Mr. Bangura said:” Article 14 of the Constitution gives them the right to support any Presidential Candidate, especially when the MDR is not feeding any candidate for the Presidency”.
At the same time, Representative Gonpu Kargon says:” I remain peaceful amid criticisms by some executives of the party”.
Representative Kargon claimed he has been receiving a barrage of criticisms and backlashes from some executives of the MDR, since his expulsion.
He told ELBC on Thursday, May 18, 2023, that his expulsion was not genuine and could not augur well for the future of Liberia.
When contacted, the Vice Chairman for Public Affairs of the Movement for Democracy and Reconciliation, Kelvin Matadi, said:” Representative Gonpu Kargon should blame himself for the expulsion from the Party”.
