BISSAU, GUINEA-BISSAU-ECOWAS Heads of State and Government have endorsed Liberia’s candidacy as a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council 2026 to 2027.
Earlier, President George Weah announced Liberia’s interest as a Non-Permanent Member of the UN Security Council, at the 63rd Ordinary Session of Heads of State in Guinea-Bissau.
In a communiqué read by the ECOWAS Commission President, Omar Aliue Toure on Sunday, July 9, 2023, said:” Liberia will enjoy the fullest support of the bloc in its pursuit at the UN.”
Dr.Toure said following Liberia, Guinea-Bissau’s candidacy for a Non-Permanent Membership to the UN from 2027 to 2028 will be endorsed.
Meanwhile, Nigeria has been elected Chair of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.
