“Purchase and consumption local Liberian rice”-Bishop Robert

by Maximilian K. Kasseh jr

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Executive Director of the Community of Hope Agriculture Project (CHAP) has proposed the purchase and consumption of local rice by agriculture and other relevant stakeholders across Liberia.

Bishop Robert said:” I am pushing for a high consumption rate for locally produced rice and other products, to reduce the importation of rice and create more market opportunities and generate more incomes for smallholder farmers.”

He said for too long agriculture stakeholders and international partners have prioritized the purchase and consumption of imported rice over local rice at local workshops in Monrovia and the rural parts of the country.

The CHAP Executive Director’s recommendation followed the signing of an agreement with Concern Worldwide to supply the entity with local rice for consumption during its training sessions.

Bishop Robert Bimba said:” My proposal is also consistent with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, which calls for a Zero Hunger Strategy to ensure the consumption of local rice by the population.”
