MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Public Works Minister Ruth Coker-Collins says Liberian contractors are not performing in the road sector of the country.
Minister Coker-Collins said:” Ninety percent of Liberian contractors hired by the Public Works Ministry have actually defaulted on their contract.”
She told the ELBC Super Morning Show on Monday, September 4, 2023, that as a result, the Ministry has formally complained to the Ministry of Justice, seeking the cancellation of contracts granted to non-performing Liberian companies.
Minister Coker-Collins said:” I told the Liberian Senate regarding the underperformance of Liberian contractors in the road sector, and wondered why the Senate found my statement to be a lie.”
She also assured that the Clay Ashland Bridge project is on course and disclosed that materials for the bridge have been assembled.
Meanwhile, the Public Works Minister says the contractors working on the Roberts International Airport Highway (RIA) project are set to begin pavement of the road soon.
She said:” Pavement will certainly begin as soon as the weather condition allows the contractors to do so.”
The Public Works Boss told ELBC on Monday, September 4, 2023, that a section of the road had been compiled, awaiting pavement, and assured that all is now set for the process and that it will be done by segment due to the rainy season.
Minister Ruth Coker-Collins also revealed plans by the Ministry to rehabilitate critical areas along all roads leading to South-East and Lofa County to create access to all politicians campaigning in those areas.
