GRAND BASSA COUNTY, LIBERIA-The artificial turf at the Doris Williams Stadium in the Port City of Buchanan has been dedicated by the Chief Patron of Sports, President George Weah.
The Liberian leader, who is on his county tour, led a high profiled government delegation to cut the ribbon to the stadium.
Despite making no comments at the dedication, President Weah’s expression showed that he was delighted that the stadium was now improved to a turf.
The turf installation, a FIFA-funded project, was done by Greenfields BV and formally turned over to Football Authorities on 6 April, 2021.
The Chief Patron of Sports led his Weah-All-Stars to a 5-1 victory over the Grand Bassa All-Stars in a match that entertained the hundreds of citizens, who stormed the stadium.
The Doris Williams Stadium artificial turf’s dedication followed the dedication of the Tusa Field in Gardnersville on 7 April this year, and the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex practice pitch in Paynesville on 13 April.
These artificial turf projects are under the Fifa forward 2.0 project for members associations of fifa.
The Liberia Football Association is due to schedule some of its top league matches at the stadium.
