MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Health Authorities are expected to rollout the J&J COVID-19 Vaccines across the Country beginning August 5, this year.
In an ELBC interview Tuesday, July 27, 2021, Health Minister, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, said:” Before the rollout exercise, the Ministry will conduct a nationwide awareness.”
Dr. Jallah added that the awareness is aimed at educating the public against taking the J&J and AstraZeneca vaccines together.
She disclosed that health experts have warned against taking both vaccines; because there is no scientific prove that they work together.
The Health Minister maintained that following the awareness campaign, the J&J vaccine will be administered, while efforts are being exerted to secure additional AstraZeneca vaccines.
Dr. Jallah said their target is to vaccinate at least ten percent of the Liberian population by September this year.
At the same time, Dr. Jallah said Liberia has made significant progress in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus disease.
Minister Jallah said:” Unlike in June when Liberia recorded at least two-thousand cases, the number continues to drop drastically in July.
She lauded Liberians for their resilience in adhering to the health guidelines against COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Health Minister warned against complacency, until the virus is defeated.
In a related development, the Association of Liberians in South Sudan has donated sixty oxygen cylinders to the John F. Kennedy Hospital, in Sinkor.
The former President of the Association, Helena Kamara, said:” The donation is the association’s way of supporting government in battling the coronavirus.”
Madam Kamara asserted that despite the financial constraints, medical practitioners on the frontline continue to exhibit high level of commitment in the fight against the disease.
Receiving the items, JFK Director for Material Management, Ignatius Kamara, expressed gratitude to the group for the gesture.
Mr. Kamara maintained that the oxygen will go a long way in saving lives at the hospital.
