MONROVIA, LIBERIA-House Committee Chairman on Banking and Currency Representative Dixon Seboe says discussion on the signing of the proposed resolution on the printing of new Liberian Dollar Banknotes is ongoing.

Representative Dixon Seboe has, however, clarified that the Lower House has not passed any resolution for the printing of new money.

Speaking with ELBC Thursday, December 12, 2019, Representative Seboe said that there is a resolution which more than fifty Lawmakers have signed.

At the same time, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking and Currency, Senator Marshal Dennis, has also clarified that they have not received any resolution from the Lower House on the printing of new Liberian Dollar Banknotes.

According to the Senator Dennis, the Liberian Senate is still awaiting a resolution from the House of Representatives on the issue.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Eugene Nagbe has clarified that the Liberian Government has not printed new Liberian Dollar Banknotes.

Minister Nagbe, however, said:” The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) has only issued out to commercial banks current unused Liberian Dollar Banknotes it had in the vaults of the Bank.”

The Information Minister said the CBL, as part of its functions, put out banknotes, used and unused, from time to time to meet the liquidity needs of Commercial Banks.

The Minister’s clarification is in reaction to Representative Yekeh Kolubah’s allegation that the new Liberian Dollar Banknote given him by Commercial Banks is evidence that the government has secretly printed new banknotes.

Minister Nagbe spoke Thursday, December 12, 2019, in an ELBC interview.
