Grand Kru, Maryland in County Meet Semis

MONROVIA, LIBERIA (Kolubah Zayzay Reports) Maryland County and Grand Kru County are through to the semifinal stage of the 2019/2020 National County Sports Meet.

The two southeastern counties booked their respective semifinal slots Saturday, January 18, 2020, winning past their respective opponents at the Samuel Kenyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.

Maryland County needed post-match penalties to eliminate Sinoe County and reached the last four.

The match ended 0-0 after full 90 minutes plus extra 30 minutes.

Despite being reduced to ten men in the second half, Maryland County held on to take Sinoe County to the penalty-kicks before winning 6-5.

Both sides missed chances in the second half of the 90 minutes and the extra time.

Patrick Williams who had appeared in 12th of the County Meet edition, combined with Daniel Toe and Patrick Dweh to insure Maryland got past their southeastern neighbors to progress.

Maryland County will play the winner of the quarter final match between Nimba and Gbarpolu counties,, which comes on today,Monday,January 20,2020 at the Liberia Football Examination Hall, the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

Earlier at the ATS, Rivercess County who reached the quarter final stage of the national County Sports Meet for the first since 2008, kissed goodbye to the competition as they fell to four times winners Grand Kru county.

Grand Kru County, who are searching for their first title since 1987, defeated Rivercess County 2-0 to move to their first semifinal in several years.

Grand Kru County will face the winner of the third quarter final match between Lofa County and Bomi counties.

In Kickball, Champions Grand Bassa County and fierce title rival Margibi County moved to the semifinal with victories over Rivergee and Grand Kru Counties.

Margibi progressed to the semifinal with an easy win over surprised quarterfinalists River gee County, recording the biggest win in the quarterfinal with 14-1 home-runs.

Grand Bassa County who are hoping to win the kickball title for the straight third year running, struggled to eliminate Grand Kru county 1-0 home-runs in the second match on Saturday.
