MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has taken an exception to a ruling and filed an appeal to the Supreme Court of Liberia.

The case involves Government and the former Head of Secretariat of the Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (LIEITI) and his Deputy.

It followed ruling by the Commercial Court in favor of the former LIEITI Head, Atty. Konah Karmo and his Deputy Myer Saye.

Atty. Karmo and his Deputy challenged their illegal removal without pay and demanded their benefits on grounds that their positions were tenure positions.

Commercial Court Chief Judge, Eve Mappy-Morgan, Thursday, June 18, 2020, held the Government liable to pay Atty. Konah Karmo and his Deputy Myer Saye three-hundred-thousand United States Dollars.

In her Thursday’s ruling, Judge Mappy-Morgan also ordered the Clerk to open extra account and inform Government ti deposit the amount awarded the plaintiffs, despite an appeal to the Supreme Court.

In another development, a woman believed to be a notorious thief has been sent to jail for allegedly duping several people of over fifty-thousand United States Dollars.

Suspect Mario Flomo, a resident of Jacob Town, was charged with theft of property, burglary, criminal trespass and robbery, from April, 2018 to June, 2020.

Suspect Mario has been allegedly involved in intruding several weddings, purporting to be a family member.

According to the investigation reports, suspect Mario intruded into several weddings in Monrovia and other parts, and allegedly escaped with valuable items, including rings, phones and one-thousand US Dollars she took from the Bridal Party.

She told police investigation that she was never a relative to any of the victims, but has been in the business for a long time.
