Information Minister invites Press Union of Liberia to meeting

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has cited the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) to a conference on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, to investigate alleged threats on the life of Journalist T-Max Jlateh.

Recently the PUL issued a release in which it reported a formal complaint it has received from Jlateh threats on his life.

A Ministry of Information release issued Monday, October 19, 2020, quoted Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie as saying the accounts reported by the PUL warrant an investigation, to ascertain the actual nature of the allegations.

Minister Rennie also said:” Members of the National Civil Society Council and the Inter-Religious Council of Liberia are expected to form part of the one day meeting.”

According to him, the Government has been making significant strides to create an enabling environment for the media to freely operate.

Meanwhile, the Information Minister said that Government will not condone any act that threatens the security of peaceful citizens, including journalists, despite their views, political or political affiliation.
