Gov. of Liberia breaks grounds for construction of road from Ganta to Saclepea

GANTA, NIMBA COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has broken grounds for the construction of a Thirty-Nine Kilometer Road, from Ganta to Saclepea in Nimba County.

According the Liberian Government, the road is Phase One of the Upgrade and Rehabilitation of the South-Eastern Corridor from Ganta to Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.

Speaking at the Groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, December 2, 2020, in Ganta, President George Weah said:” The construction of the road signifies the progress Government is making in road.”

President Weah said Government is providing funding for Phase One of the project, through the Liberia Reconstruction Trust Fund.

When completed, President Weah said the road will boost economic activities and give easy access to healthcare.

President George Weah than thanked the World Bank and the Chinese Government for their support the Liberian Government’s road agenda.

Meanwhile, Acting Public Works Minister Ruth Coker Collins said:” Discussions for the Ganta to Zwedru Road Project began in 2018, when the Liberian Government engaged the World Bank.”

Minister Collins said the road will include asphalt pavement and design.

According to her, the cost of the First Phase of the road is thirty-point-three million United States Dollars for a period of twenty-two months.

She noted that about three-hundred project affected persons have been compensated in the tone of one-point-five United States Dollars.

Madam Ruth Coker Collins said the Second Phase of the road, which runs from Tappita to Zwedru, is sixty-one kilometers.

At the same time, the Government of Liberia says market construction remains crucial to its Pro-Poor Agenda.

President Weah said:” My administration will ensure makeshift market buildings are reconstructed by the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE).”

The Liberia Leader made the commitment Wednesday, December 2, 2020, when he dedicated the newly reconstructed Ganta Market in Nimba County.

He said the market has brought relief to marketers who have suffered the consequences of the dilapidated market in Ganta.

However, the Liberian Chief Executive has instructed LACE to rehabilitate the Sanniquellie Central Market, following an appeal from the President of the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA), Alice Yeabahn.

For his part, LACE Executive Director, Quiwu Yeke, put the cost of the market to over two-hundred-fifty-thousand United States Dollars.

Mr. Yeke said the market contains electricity, latrines and hanging fans, among others.

According to him, the facility has a total of two-hundred market tables at both ground and upper floors.

The LACE Boss thanked President Weah for ensuring funding for the market was secured.

Responding, the market lauded the Liberian Government for the construction of the market and other market buildings in the Country.
