Chief Justice assigns Judge Willie Ad-Hoc Judge of the Commercial Court

by Fabine W. Kwiah

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Chief Justice, Francis Korkpor has appointed Criminal Court ‘A’ Judge, Roosevelt Willie, as Ad-Hoc Judge of the Commercial Court.

The decision came after the Judiciary Inquiry Commission recommended a one-year suspension of Judge Eva Mappy Morgan, who has briefly relinquished legal authority to undergo investigation.

Justice Korkpor’s decision, according to ELBC Judicial Reporter, is due to Judge Mappy-Morgan’s recusal from the case involving the Monrovia Trading Company and Amos Brosius on an Action of Petition for Accounting.

Judge Mappy-Morgan has been accused of ethical misconduct, after she reportedly sided with the MOTC to withdraw three-million United States Dollars from the Ducor Petroleum Account.

Justice Korkpor’s decision to appoint Judge Willie is consistent with Article 5, (3) of the Act creating the Commercial Court, seeking to complete the full panel of the three judges of the court, and to make determination in the case in question.

The appointment comes at the time when the Supreme Court on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, rescheduled Judge Mappy-Morgan and Cllr. Ndubusi Nwabudike’s legal proceeding for ethical misconduct, and to reveal the Judiciary Inquiry Commission’s recommendations.
