Liberia and Mauritania Sign Memorandum of Understanding in Fishery Sector

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia and Mauritania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the Fishery Sector for cooperation in combating illegal fishing.

The Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), Emma Glassco, signed on behalf of the Liberian Government, while the Mauritanian Minister of Fisheries signed on behalf of his government.

The objective of the MoU is to promote and facilitate cooperation on fisheries inspection and related activities.

The MoU also seeks to ensure effective administration and control over flagged-fishing consistent with laws, regulations and international conventions to eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Making remark prior to the signing ceremony, Madam Glassco commended the Mauritanian Government for creating and enabling environment for the signing intended to enhance the cordial relations between the two countries.

The Mauritanian Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Mohammed Mayif, said:” My Government is pleased to enter into the MoU meant to fight illegal fishing activities for the benefit of both countries.”
