MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Labor has issued directives, calling for an immediate end to the ongoing strike by employees of ArcelorMittal Liberia.

The Ministry of Labor, the Workers’ Representatives, and the Management of ArcelorMittal Liberia have been engaged in discussions, to address the ongoing strike that has brought the Company’s operations to a halt in Nimba and Grand Bassa Counties.

The employees have since raised concerns about salary disparities and the need for salary increments.

But in a release, the Labor Ministry instructed all parties to return to Status Quo Ante, pending the determination of the matter.

The release quotes Labor Minister, Cllr. Charles Gibson, as mandating negotiations between the workers and the Management of the Company, while, at the same time, reminding the Workers’ Union that any strike or industrial action must be in accordance with the Decent Work Act and the laws of Liberia.

According to Minister Gibson, the Labor Ministry remains committed to facilitating a fair and transparent negotiation process.
