MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government and African Development Bank on Tuesday joined forces to embark on the construction of the Coastal Highway.

The infrastructure project aims at addressing the persistent road challenges faced by citizens of the country’s southeastern region that has plagued citizens for over two hundred years.

According to a release issued recently, the first phase will see the construction of a 56-kilometer stretch from Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, to Cestos, River Cess County.

The release said the first segment of the Coastal Highway project, which is estimated at forty-five million United States Dollars, is a testament to both government and the AfDB’s commitment to fuel sustainable development.

The completion of the project holds the potential to uplift communities, unlock regional potential, and set the stage for a brighter future for all Liberians.

Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and Minister of Public Works Ruth Coker-Collins represented the Liberian Government at the meeting while Dr. Benedict Kanu, Country Manager of the African Development Bank, and Jean-Noel Ilboudo represented the Bank.
