Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa lauds Liberia Broadcasting System…

by Varflay Kamara

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA), with support from USAID, has lauded the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) for fairly covering the campaigns of all candidates.

However, the EISA International Election Observation Mission noted that most of the election campaign coverage by the State Media was done on newscasts.

Releasing official findings of the October 10 Presidential and Legislative Elections on Thursday, October 12, 2023, the Head of Mission, Dr. Nevers Mumba, said:” The Mission observed widespread misinformation on some social media platforms.”

In several recommendations, Dr. Mumba urged the Liberian Government to pass laws on compulsory gender quotas for female candidates in line with international commitment to affirmative action.

The former Zambian Vice President recommended that the National Elections Commission increase the number of voting booths in polling places to expedite the voting process.
