House Speaker Chambers Calls for Calm in Pleebo, Maryland County

by Maximilian K. Kasseh jr

MARYLAND COUNTY, LIBERIA-House Speaker Bhofal Chambers is calling on his supporters in Pleebo, Maryland County, to remain calm in the wake of post-election tension in the area.

Supporters of Dr. Bhofal Chambers and his nearest challenger, Anthony Williams have been circling at NEC local office in Harper claiming victory.

But, speaking to ELBC on Friday, October 13, 2023, House Speaker Chambers expressed confidence in NEC and called on his supporters to remain peaceful.

The Pleebo, Sodoken District Representative said only the Elections Commission has the sole authority to announce results, urging citizens of Maryland County to wait patiently.

He added that declaring oneself as a winner without the National Elections Commission’s pronouncement is counterproductive to Liberia’s peace and democracy.
