US Gov. Sanctions Additional Three Liberian Gov. Officials…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The United States Government has designated three additional Liberian government Officials for sanctions.

They are Senate Pro-Tempore Albert Chie, Finance Minister Samuel Tweah, and Margibi County Senator Emmanuel Nuquay.

In a release issued on Monday, December 11, 2023, the US Government said it is publicly designating Tweah, Chie, and Nuquay for their involvement in significant corruption and human rights abuses.

It accused the officials of abusing their public positions through soliciting, accepting, and offering bribes to manipulate the legislative process and public funding, including legislative reporting and mining sector activity.

On December 8, 2023, the US Treasury Department designated Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee, for serious human rights abuse and corruption.
