MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The General Auditing Commission of Liberia (GAC) is proposing to the House of Representatives a comprehensive system review to strengthen its records.

Auditor General Garswa Jackson said:” The process will help review the financial system of the National Legislature and identify fiscal management weaknesses.”

Mr. Jackson further said this will enable the GAC to establish a prudent financial management system before a full audit is commissioned.

Speaking upon the invitation of the Plenary of the House of Representatives on Thursday, February 8, 2024, Liberia’s Auditor General said:” This will register the National Legislature’s full preparedness to champion transparency and accountability.”

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has graciously accepted the GAC’s proposal and called on all its relevant committees to take seize of the matter.

At the same time, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. Fonati Koffa has assured Liberians of that body’s strong determination to uphold transparency and accountability.

Speaker Koffa said upholding the tenets of transparency and accountability is the hallmark of the current National Legislature.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, Speaker Koffa said the current National Legislature will continue to champion the will and aspirations of the Liberian people, and instructed the Committee on Rules, Orders, and Administration to conduct an employee payroll audit of the House of Representatives.

House Speaker Cllr. Fonati Koffa said the move is to rectify discrepancies in the payroll and eliminate potential ghost names from the system.
