GRAND BASSA COUNTY, LIBERIA-Concerned residents of Buchanan in Grand Bassa County have raised alarm over the undermining of the Coastal Defense Wall in the Fanti Town Community.

The Spokesman of the residents, James Toe, said:” Widespread illicit sand mining is being carried out by unscrupulous individuals for financial gains at the detriment of the Community.

Mr. Toe also disclosed that some residents are removing the materials used to build the defense wall, thus posing a serious threat to the coastal community.

He also called on the local County authorities to take decisive action to prevent residents from intrusion on the coastal facility to abort unforeseen disasters.

The two-point-nine US Dollar Coastal Defense Project in Buchanan was funded by the UNDP in 2010 to combat sea erosion in Fanti Town Community.
