MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Ministry of Commerce ordering for all business transactions to be done in Liberian Dollars is policy by law and came into effect since August 1, 2019.
Commerce Minister Wilson Tarpeh said: “The policy is by law and violators risk huge fines and revocation of their business licenses”. Mr. Tarpeh however, warned that no buyer should be compelled to purchase in United States Dollars.
He spoke at a press Conference Saturday, August 10, 2019 in Monrovia, noting that the measure is intended for the Liberian Dollar to be prioritized and also boost the value of the local currency.
Minister Tarpeh is also urging the public to report any case of businesses refusal of Liberian Dollars for transactions, and reiterated that the Liberian and the United States Dollars would be used simultaneously for business.
