MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberian football champions LPRC Oilers displayed a fine performance Sunday, as they came from a goal down to whip LISCR FC in an entertaining fixture at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville.

LISCR FC set pace to the match with an early pressure on the Oilers.

Connections between Maliki Kromah, John Momo and Sekou Sheriff kept the Champions busy in defense in the opening stages of the match.

That paid off for LISCR in the 26th minute, when a Joseph Melto effort on goal hit the hand of Oilers right back, Samir Kamara, in the penalty area, with goalie Tommy Songo converting to give LISCR the lead.

That goal was a wakeup call for the Champions, as Irvin Gboto, Ebenezer Solo, Fred Brook and William Freeman took charge of proceedings to turn the tide.

Oilers’ Irvin Gboto took control of the midfield, feeding Terry Sackor and Titus Cooper upfront.

Irvin Gboto, Ebenezer Solo and Fred Brook midfield combination turned the game on LISCR head, as the visitors left and right wings came under intense pressure at the amusement of the few Oilers supporters at the stadium.

Oilers equalize ten minutes after LISCR had taken the lead with a Fred Brook 24 yard strike, which Tommy Songo failed to deal with.

Oilers increased the rhythm with clever passes between the midfield and the strikers leading to the winner for the Champions.

Left back Daniel Woto’s smart pass to Terry Sackor saw the Oilers attackers’ sprang between two defenders, before being brought down by goalkeeper Tommy Songo for a penalty, which was converted by Captain Ebenezer Solo.

The second half had some exciting moments for LISCR, but the defense pairing of Sampson Dweh and Mehnpaine Dolo in the oilers defense thwarted LISCR effort.

The game was arguably over after fifteen minutes of the second half, as tiredness stepped in on both sides of the contending parties at the SKD Sports Complex, that has had it’ second day of LFA League actions for many years .

Praising the LFA for using the SKD for its league matches this season, the two coaches said their players are not use to the pitch which had some effects on the game, but promised performance will get better gradually.

From the performance of both sides and a great show by Irvin Gboto, Terry Sackor, Ebenezer Solo, Titus Cooper, Fred Brook and Sampson Dweh, the 2-1 scoreline for Oilers could only be accepted by LISCR FC still looking for its first win of the season.
