by Maximilian K. Kasseh jr

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-ECOWAS Parliamentary Committee Chairman on Political Affairs, Peace, Security, and African Peer Review Mechanism is calling for increased support to Liberian Security, ahead of the October 10 polls.

Mr. Edwin Snowe said:” The Liberian Government needs to provide special training for the security apparatus to amicably resolve election-related matters.”

Mr. Snowe spoke on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, on the ELBC evening magazine program, Open Conversation.

The Bomi County Senator, who is Liberia’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, said the training of members of the Joint Security is critical to maintaining the peace and stability of the country.

Senator Snowe also emphasized the need for Liberia to learn the lesson from neighboring Sierra Leone, to help conduct peaceful and transparent elections on October 10, this year.

Meanwhile, Mr. Snowe is urging the National Elections Commission (NEC) to adopt an open media engagement, to keep the public abreast with election-related activities.

He said:” The NEC should develop a schedule for a regular press briefing, to avoid public speculations about election matters.”

Mr. Snowe added that such a move, when adopted, will help the Commission to combat the spreading of falsehood about the country’s electoral process, and help update Liberians about electoral issues.

Liberia’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS also disclosed that teams from ECOWAS and the African Union are expected in Liberia on a fact-finding mission on its preparedness, ahead of the elections.
