Justice-In-Chambers Places Stay Order on Proceedings…..

by Fabine W. Kwiah

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The presiding Justice-in-Chambers, Yusif Kaba, has placed a stay order on the proceedings in connection with the appointment of a new Chairman of the Governance Commission.

It followed a petition filed by Attorney Garrison Yealue in a fifteen count on grounds that he was nominated by former President George Weah in 2023, to serve in his capacity as Chairman of the Governance Commission for four years.

Recently, President Joseph Boakai nominated Professor Alaric Tokpah as Chairman of the Governance Commission pending confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

The petition said his argument is consistent with Article 25 of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia, which guarantees the sanity of contracts that cannot be breached or disturbed, except as a result of due process.

Meanwhile, Justice Kaba has cited both parties through the Justice Ministry to a conference on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
